Microwave Tips
Tips from Prowrap for using cling film when cooking with microwaves
When cooking or reheating in microwaves, chefs often use cling film to seal freshness, moisture and flavour into the food. In fact cooking in a microwave without covering the dish can leave food very dry. However there are a few points to consider when using cling film in this way. Here Prowrap’s Nick Scoon offers five top tips.
• Before using cling film in a microwave, check the box to see that it is a microwave-safe product such as Prowrap Premium Fresh Cling.
• Handling cling film can be awkward and wasteful if ‘scrunching’ occurs. Using a dispenser makes covering dishes quick, easy and hygienic. The new Speedwrap dispenser uses Prowrap Professional Fresh Cling which is ideal for use in microwaves.
• When re-heating or cooking food in a microwave oven always ensure that the cling film does not come into contact with the food.
• Cling film should be pierced in order to allow steam to escape – just a couple of small slits is generally enough.
• Beware of escaping steam when removing cling film from hot food.
